Dog shows are like the Holy Grail to most dog enthusiasts. Dog shows are a great way for dog breeders, enthusiasts, and owners to share their love for dogs.
The largest and most celebrated dog show in America is the Westminster Kennel Club Show in New York City's Madison Square Garden. Every year, dog aficionados gather from across the world to exhibit their four-legged pride and joys. Dog shows are broken down into multiple groups, with different breeds within each group. For instance, the Hound Group may include dogs ranging from the Dachshund breed to the Otterhound breed.
There are seven groups within the two-day dog show. At The Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show, these groups include: Sporting, Hound, Working, Terrier, Toy, Non-Sporting, and Herding. A benched dog show means that the dog owner's must remain in their designated areas so people may walk by and see the dogs. Dog shows can be a very exhausting yet exhilarating experience. To have such beautiful, pure bred animals under the same roof is an experience in itself.
Dog shows are essentially a way to sift many different breeds of dogs until down to one. This particular one is certified as the "Best in Show." There are awards given for the best in group, which is considered more of a secondary award. The most gratifying award given in dog shows is the "Best in Show." This is the most honored award, granted only to the dog which surpasses all other dogs. It is a very established, distinguished reward that one honors for many years to come. |
